OVER seven thousand Santa Clauses ran through the centre of Madrid on Sunday in an annual charity race held to raise money for a cancer-care charity, which was won by a British man.

A number of children dressed as green elves also participated in the event, which took place over a five kilometre course along the Paseo de la Castellana,  with Yorkshire-born Paul Whitelam, who now works as a photographer in Madrid, coming first over the line.

Organisers described the fifth staging of the race, race as the largest of its kind in the world, with a portion of the entry fees going to Fundacion Intheos, which supports projects in the field of advanced cancer care and research.
