A VALENCIAN regional organisation says that as of last summer, the number of bank branches in Spain has halved, compared to the pre-recession numbers.
The Valencian Institute of Financial Research (IVIE), states in their number count that in 2018, there were 27,320 branches across the country, compared to a figure of over 45 thousand before the economic downturn started at the end of the previous decade.
The IVIE added that 52.2 per cent of municipalities in the country had no branch in them at all.
Those figures are mirrored locally within the Comunidad Valenciana, with 248 municipalities out of over 500 having no physical banking presence, with the IVIE estimating that 136 thousand people have to travel to use face-to-face services.
