THERE will be a special bike ride departing from the town of Algorfa this Sunday (23rd September) as a tribute to a young cyclist from the town who died while out cycling last week. Jack Swift, aged just 21, was killed on the CV-935 between Algorfa and Los Montesinos after being struck by a car on 16th September.
The incident occurred just before 2 pm when witnesses said that there was a head-on collision between the bike and the car, which was described as a 4×4 type vehicle. The young man was airlifted to Alicante Hospital but his death was confirmed later the same day. A 51-year-old man and 46-year-old woman in the vehicle involved were unhurt.
Algorfa City Council has collaborated with the Cyclogical bike shop to stage the tribute to Jack which will leave the shop at 9 am. The route is planned to take in one of his favourite rides, the lake at Torremendo, part of a 50km route on the day. All riders are welcome in what will be a slow steady ride during what is forecast to be good cycling weather. For more details go to the Cyclogical Quesada or Algorfa Town Hall Facebook page at Ayuntamiento de Algorfa.
