A 36 year old Spanish man has been arrested in Sant Vicent del Raspeig and charged with the theft of large amounts of copper cabling. The cables had been used for telephony and internet connections and the theft caused many residents in the Moralet area to lose their access.  The supply company had reported the thefts in January, with 1,200 metres of cables worth around €20,000 being stolen. Police were aware that the suspect had a history of similar offences and gained a warrant to search his property which uncovered the stolen copper cables and specialist cutting tools. The loss of internet and phone lines had caused many residents major problems with even the emergency services being unavailable while facilities such as centres for the disabled lost all phone lines.
