AN Alicante court has sentenced a man to fifteen years in jail for a failed attempt to blow up his ex-partners car in an attempted murder in Elche in 2014. The man, who had a background in electronics, swapped the car headrest with one filled with an explosive charge. The homemade device, a form of pipe bomb set to go off when the cars electric windows were used, exploded while his ex was in the car. Whilst the blast was not fatal she did sustain serious injuries. The couple had two young children but had separated and continued to argue over alimony payments and other issues the court heard. He had denied all charges but was found guilty of attempted murder and as well as the prison sentence was fined €32,000 in criminal damages to be paid to his former partner.
