SUPPORTERS of animal charity SCAN staged a double celebration in El Vergel last weekend; opening a new shop and the fifth birthday of its rescue centre in the town.
Mayor Basili Salort joined manager Terri Lewis to cut the ribbon at the shop in Carrer Doctor Domenach and welcome guests for a celebratory drink and a look around the stock.
Terri said a 15-strong team ran the shop; but new faces would be made most welcome. “We are always looking for volunteers.
“I think it’s a very relaxed place to work and we are very much the public face of SCAN. This marks a new chapter for the shop and for the charity.”
And the party continued at the SCAN shelter on Sunday with a party to mark the five years since the purpose-built centre was opened to help cats and dogs find new homes.
Singer Gill Henry entertained and helped the fund raisers rake in a record €2,480 before expenses, rounding a milestone weekend for the charity.
The shop is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm; donations are always gratefully received.
