The Spanish Geographic Institute has confirmed an earthquake with the epicentre in Benitachell occurred just before 10pm on Wednesday August 21st 2019

The quake, which was only a few seconds had a magnitude of 2.8 on the Richter scale.
Benitachell, Located on the northern Costa Blanca,  experienced this minor quake which shook the town and other towns as far as Denia and Benissa.

Residents of Benitachell report that they heard loud bangs and felt their houses shake.

An Earthquake with a magnitude ranging between 2.5 & 5.4 are often felt, but rarely cause damage, and if damage does occur it is usually only minor.
There are an estimated 30,000 earthquakes of this magnitude yearly worldwide.

Police have not received any reports of damage to persons or property, however, they did receive many calls from a worried and concerned public.
