ALTEA’S OMIC department, which looks into consumer complaints, received 360 enquiries and handled 126 official complaints in 2016. The most common area of complaint was in the technology sector, particularly telephony, as well as utility companies, especially gas. They also received complains about the financial sector, including alleged mis-selling of financial products. Local tradespeople were more likely to resolve any customer issues themselves whereas OMIC did receive more complaints concerning larger stores. Altea’s councillor for Commerce, Anna Alvado, said that OMIC is becoming higher profile and better known in the town and residents are beginning to appreciate its value to them as consumers. The office is located on the ground floor of the town hall and is open on Friday’s except for August.
