POLICE are investigating how a car came to be on a test track set aside for bicycles after a cyclist was badly injured after being struck by the wayward vehicle. The incident happened at the mountain test track in Crevillent and it appears that a barrier may have been removed by another motorist though it is unclear why. This allowed the 60 year old driver to enter the track where he struck the 31 year old bike rider, an Elche resident who was airlifted to Elche hospital. The man was participating in a race at the time and witnesses say that the race and track were all clearly signposted and there would be no reason for cars to enter the area.
