THERE are fears that up to 240 workers may lose their jobs at Ford’s giant car plant at Almussafes – known locally as Ford City. In 2013 based on long term forecasts the company had begun plans to make 700 temporary workers permanent. While 460 have now become full time employees the conversion of the remaining 240 is in doubt as production forecasts have been altered. There has also been uncertainty in the plant since the election of US President Donald Trump who has made it clear that he wants US firms to create jobs for US workers. As the Almussafes plant is one of the largest outside of the US there are concerns about whether Ford will push through future development plans in the face of Trump’s not very veiled threats.
