POLICE officers cordoned off part of the busy N-332 highway on the Orihuela Costa on Sunday afternoon, in order to catch two car thieves who had expensive tastes.
A car owner, on holiday from Germany, watched speechless as one of thieves drove off in his 220 thousand euro Maserati that had been parked at the Cabo Roig marina.
He immediately told the marina authorities, who called the Orihuela local police.
The other thief had helped himself to a Porsche, also with a German number plate, and the two cars sped off towards the N-332, where they hoped to disappear within the large number of weekend motorists.
Unfortunately for the duo, the police merely instigated a road block and arrested the men of Albanian and Belgian nationalities, who are believed to be part of a big gang of luxury car robbers.
The car owners were reunited with their vehicles at Playa Flamenca Town Hall.
