A message on Real Madrid’s official Twitter account welcoming Lionel Messi to the club from rivals Barcelona has been blamed on hackers by the club. Saying “Welcome Messi!” in four languages along with a clip of the Argentinian scoring a goal, the message appeared on the Madrid giants Twitter feed on 26 August, and was then re-tweeted 27,000 times in less than an hour. The tweet was deleted after about another hour and hacking outfit OurMine later claimed responsibility for the prank – leaving behind a lot of disappointed Real fans.
