A number of new rules are coming in from 1 January regarding bull running and similar such events across the Valencian Community. The main focus is on improving animal welfare, and an approved veterinarian will now need to attend any event involving bulls. The vet must be hired by the organisers and approved by local authorities. They must then be able to verify all documentation regarding the origin of the animal and the conditions it is being kept in for the duration of the bull running.

Over the summer months there were over 6,500 bous al carrers across Valencia, which is actually 430 more than 2016, despite the regular protests over their staging. Even the smallest fiesta will be subject to the new rules once the legislation has been officially passed.
