GUARDAMAR del Segura has requested 100,000 cubic metres of water from the Hydrographic Confederation which controls supply of treated water. The request is to cover a variety of things as diverse as irrigation and street cleaning. The area surrounding the castle is in particular need of extra irrigation as it has seen a serious decrease in vegetation over the drought periods of the last few years, despite the recent heavy rains. The sewage treatment plant holds 1.2 million cubic meters of water so the amount requested represents just under 10% of the total held.
