A judge in Alicante has confirmed that Miguel Lopez, accused of murdering his mother last year, can remain out of prison on his bail of €150,000. Prosecutors had expressed concern that Lopez was a flight risk having the motive and means to leave Spain. However the judge pointed out that his passport had been confiscated and he had to attend court regularly to show he is still present and willing to face trial. Lopez’s mother was Maria del Carmen Martinez, widow of former CAM Bank President Vicente Sala. She was shot and killed in an underground car park on 9 December in what prosecutors are calling a financially motivated murder.
