AFTER what has been described as a catalogue of errors, Valencia City council have announced that the iconic Palau de la Musica will not reopen its doors until at least 2022. One of the city’s best-known buildings, Palau is located in the Turia gardens dry river-bed and has hosted musical stars from around the world since opening in 1987, from pop to opera. However, last June a large chunk of the ceiling collapsed in the main performance room, caused by untreated leaks. These had been known about, but not properly repaired and various issues have led to the big delay with all sides blaming the other, including the government team. Thankfully Valencia has other suitable venues across the city but the loss of the main central music auditorium for this amount of time is seen as a blow both for locals and visitors.
