TEXLIMCA, the company that purchases used clothing donated in the designated collection bins, presented a cheque for €6,724 to Denia City Council for the clothes collected in 2016 across the town. The cash will be split between the members of Denia’s Mesa Solidaria, the Red Cross, Caritas, Salvation Army and Extiende tu Mano. The 22 containers collected just under 70,000 kilos of used clothing and footwear, a 15% increase on 2015. The increase was attributed primarily to a raise in public awareness, helped by campaigns in schools and other public institutions. When using the bins the public are reminded to place the clothing in plastic bags and also that the condition is not crucial as unusable clothing will be safely recycled.
