DESPITE experiencing some issues with the tendering process, Elche Town Hall has confirmed that there will be lifeguards on their beaches over Easter. The delay in confirming the details had been because the company that were originally awarded the contract to patrol the sands failed to submit the required documentation in time. However, Elche’s councillor for tourism, Mireia Molla, said that they have now awarded the contract to the second company in the tenders list, Intur Esport SA. Although there has not been the time to arrange a full contract the terms of the short term contract means that there will be no change in the service offered over the Easter period when there will be lifeguards in place from 8 to 17 April. The service will resume on 1 June and run throughout the summer when the council fully expect to have a full contract in place.
