AN Alicante vet has pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of his wife in 2013 at the veterinarian surgery in Benijofar where he worked. He claimed in court that he gave her a lethal dose of drugs as a mercy killing at the request of his wife. However in his original version of events he said that the woman took her own life. A further version came about in 2016 when he claimed that she had died as the result of a botched attempt at a stomach reduction operation by the vet. After the death the man burnt his wife’s body, he said to honour her wishes to be cremated. Prosecutors had requested a sentence of fifteen years for the killing although were willing to accept the reduce sentence as part of a guilty plea.
