A tablet is being blamed for the death of a three-year-old girl in a traffic accident on Monday, when she was travelling in a car with her mother near Vilanova de Arousa in Galicia.
Traffic was slowing as there had been an earlier minor accident, but the child’s mother did not notice the situation due to the glare of the early morning sun according to her statement and she ploughed into the back of a school bus.
The mother and daughter were both seriously hurt and taken to the local hospital. Due to the extent of her head injuries, the little girl was transferred to the hospital at Santiago de Compostela but sadly died 20 hours later.
According to the Guardia Civil officers at the scene, she was properly restrained in a child seat and the injuries had been caused by her head hitting the tablet she was watching at the time of the crash. Her mother’s condition is said to be serious but not life-threatening, while one child on the school bus sustained minor injuries.
