On Friday, the seminar ‘Violence against women: how to end the unending massacre’ will be held at the Platja Albir Social Center in Alfàs del Pi, which will be led by Professor Johan Galtung and will be attended by Paloma Román Marugán and Elena Simón Rodríguez.
In the course of 2017, some twenty women have been killed, victims of gender violence. There are more than 800 registered femicides since there is a law against gender violence, chilling figures that demand an immediate response from society. Hence, the Center for Conflict Resolution (Alfa, Delta, Pi), in collaboration with the Alfàs del Pi City Council, decided to dedicate the seminar of March to address this social scourge and try to Bring some light, from the prism of mediation and dialogue.
Johan Galtung is one of the most important current social science theorists. His work represents one of the greatest contributions to studies for peace and his theory of conflicts is a world reference. In l’Alfàs del Pi, where she settled more than four decades ago, she has promoted the creation of the International Center for Conflict Resolution (Alpha, Delta, Pi) from which it is organized, in Collaboration with the Alfasino consistory, a cycle of monthly seminars on mediation that also have the backing of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
The seminar on gender violence includes the participation of Elena Simón Rodríguez, a graduate in Philology, a secondary school teacher for more than thirty years, currently belongs to the Debating and Feminist Training Hall at the University of Alicante (UA) and Chairs the Association ‘Museum of Facts and Rights of Women’. Since 1980, the year in which he founded the Feminario de Alicante, he develops studies, training and dissemination of coeducation, equality between men and women, non-sexist language and gender analysis and approach, collaborating as a teacher and expert in diverse Instances.
The other speaker will be Paloma Román Marugán, PhD in Political Science, Professor of the Department of Political Science and Administration II at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and specialist in mediation and negotiation. Author and coordinator of different books and articles published both in Spain and abroad is also deputy director of the magazine Politics and Society.
The seminar will be held on 24 and 25 March at the Platja Albir Social Center. Also, on Friday, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., there will be a session open to the general public for which no registration is necessary.
