DENIA town council have decried the actions of unknown vandals who have graffitied the recently renovated area on the hill leading up to the castle in the les Roques area. The €10,000 project was only completed last month and was part of the 2019 participatory budget plans voted for by local residents. A statement from the Town Hall on social media said “During the second half of December the cleaning, pruning of trees, clearing and painting of the walls (which were full of graffiti) were carried out. We wanted to show you the photos of the result, but today the garden looks like this (see image). It is not only the responsibility of the city council to maintain Denia as we would all want it”.
Mayor Vicent Grimalt said in a separate statement that the vandalism was “an attack on Denia residents and a waste of taxpayers money.” As well as the graffiti the area is also strewn with rubbish and bottles, indicating that the area was a site for at least one “bottelon” party over the holiday period.
