ONE of Spain’s most wanted fugitives, a British national, was arrested in Benidorm by the National Police on Friday 10 March. Gareth Edwards has been sought by the British authorities and is due to serve three life sentences for armed and violent robbery offences. He was thought dangerous enough that he was on Spain’s “Top Ten most Wanted” list and his image would have been widely circulated amongst Spanish authorities. Sharp eyed police officers had noticed a man on Benidorm’s Calle Mallorca who resembled Edwards and asked him for ID. The man showed them a passport but the police were not convinced that the picture on the passport was of the same man that they were questioning. He then ran off but officers caught and detained him and also found cocaine on his person. After taking fingerprints at the police station the authorities were able to confirm that the man was Gareth Bryan Edwards, a British National aged 25.
